Welcome to a special episode/week at The Recovering Politician.
With a brilliant wife, mom, sister, and two daughters (and A not-so brilliant female dog), I’m surrounded by strong, empowered women. The adults in that group have been powerful spokeswomen for femal empowerment, the teens are well on their way.
So this week, we are dedicating the site to he issue. You will hear from some outstanding women writers, and all of our Weekly Web Gems will focus on the female side of our everyday issues.
So put away your y chromosomes, it’s time to celebrate the better sex.

In an otherwise excellent column on the national ramifications of next week’s Kentucky gubernatorial election, one of my favorite political journalists, Howard Fineman of The Huffington Post, writes:
And then there is the charm factor. [Governor Steve] Beshear is a good ol’ boy of the old school, the kind of guy you’d see at the lunch counter. [Running mate Jerry] Abramson — who would be the first Jew elected to statewide office in Kentucky — looks like a prosperous, well-barbered guy in the good seats at the ballgame, but he’s just as gregarious, and he’s traveling the state from Pikeville to Paducah to talk about the jobs he has managed to bring to the Louisville area. Reports out of the Indianapolis Colts state Peyton Manning is still looking to practice this season and retains hope that he may play in a game in 2011. Manning had his third neck surgery in 19 months in September when he had part of his spine fused. Unbelievable. [ESPN]
1) to put it diplomatically, has traditional views on gender relationships, and earlier vaulted to frontrunner status a woman who advised other women to “submit” to their husbands;
2) finds any item about a conservative politician originating in the MSM to be dubious; and
3) has appeared to penalize candidates only when they do or say anything that receives MSM plaudits (i.e., Perry’s position on in-state college tuition for immigrants, almost anything Huntsman has said), I’m not so sure this episode hurts Cain.
That doesn’t mean I think he’ll get the nomination. At some point, common sense will prevail.

The Politics of Tech
Could the Blacklist Bill effectively kill user-generated content on the Internet? If so, would Twitter, Youtube, and similar sites die? [Demand Progress]
There is also the Stop Online Piracy Act, as “Congress has declared war on the Internet.” [gigaom]
One more – this one is called the E-PARASITES Act (renamed from the PROTECT IP Act). Ugh. [Tech Dirt]
There is a White House petition to stop the E-PARASITE Act. Check it out and sign it if you agree with its goal. [WhiteHouse.gov]
Google was asked by a U.S. law enforcement agency to remove a video of police brutality from its search results. Google refused. Put one in the win column for the good guys. [Huffington Post]
On a lighter note – Heads-up navigation display for cars. Yes please! [PHYSORG]
A few of our very thoughtful readers have shared their insights on the David Williams/Hindu comments controversy covered here at The Recovering Politician. Please read below.
From Jack Burch, in his personal — not professional — capacity, submitted to the Lexington Herald-Leader:
What part of the word “respect” does Senate President and gubernatorial
candidate David Williams not understand? His attack on the participation by the Governor and Elizabethtown Mayor in the dedication of a new manufacturing plant by an Indian company was mean-spirited, disrespectful of the faith of a company and people creating jobs for Kentuckians, and, a blatant disregard for one of the most fundamental principles our nation’s founders adopted when creating a secular government.

As I travel across the country on business, I’m constantly asked what my much-smarter and much-more-popular sister, Jennifer Miller, is up to.
Of Jennifer’s many projects, one is soon coming to fruition. Over the past year, she served as Co-Producer for “Hitting the Cycle,” a baseball-themed film that was written and directed by her high school classmate Richey Nash, and co-starring the legendary Bruce Dern.
I’m excited to report that the film’s trailer has just been released. Watch it below and let me know what you think:
