Tomorrow at The Recovering Politician

We hope we added a little levity to help you get through your Wednesday.

Tomorrow, we’ll get a bit more serious as we highlight some national attention one of our contributing RPs is getting for her work in the private sector since leaving office.  She proves that sometimes recovering politicians can be more successful in developing sound public policy than active politicians.

We’ll also have plenty of Weekly Web Gems — the best of civil discourse on the Internet.

See you Thursday!

The RP: The Earth IS Flat…But THEY Can’t Handle the TRUTH…

A number of friends remarked that I showed a lot of chutzpah in my inaugural Huffington Post piece last week — by coming out of the political closet to endorse gay marriage.

You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

My second piece, published by HuffPo this morning, takes on the Lamestream Media, the Big Science Establishment, and nearly one thousand years of international conspiracy.

Yes, I prove conclusively that the Earth is flat. Here’s an excerpt:

It’s finally happening. Thanks to the courage of such TRUTH pioneers as Glenn Beck, Alex Jones, and Harold Camping (So what if his Rapture prediction was a little off?), the iniquitous conspiracy between Big Science and the Lamestream Media is finally beginning to crumble.

The first sign was cable news’ wall-to-wall coverage of 2009’s “Climategate.” We know that public exposure of a handful of snarky emails exchanged by British climatologists proved once and for all that all of the so-called “peer-reviewed findings” and “scientific consensus” that the Earth is warming as a result of human activity were a cruel hoax. And the liberal media refused to conspire (finally!) with Big Science’s attempted whitewash: There was scant coverage of the four “independent” investigations which, all-too-conveniently and coincidentally, cleared the scientists of misconduct and reconfirmed the global warming fallacy.

That’s why it’s high time for real, TRUTH-loving Americans to employ the same logic and observational methods used by climate change deniers to debunk a far more pernicious fantasy perpetuated for centuries by Big Science: The “theory” that the Earth is round, that it spins wildly on its own axis, and that it hurtles madly through “outer space.”

Who doesn’t need a laugh on a Wednesday?

Tomorrow, The Recovering Politician will be here to deliver the humor.

We begin at 8:30 with contributing RP Jeff Smith‘s latest piece on how a small lie led to both hilarity and a meaningful friendship.

Then the RP will engage around lunchtime with his latest Huffington Post submission, which should make you chuckle.  (We hope it was intended to do so…)

So see you on Hump Day.  We will make sure it will be memorable.

Tomorrow at The Recovering Politician

We lead off Tuesday with a piece from contributing RP Kathleen Kennedy Townsend about her work battling the global AIDS epidemic.  While considerable progress has been made fighting the disease in the US, we still face an enormous challenge worldwide.  Tune in at 8:30 AM to learn more about the scope of this problem.

At lunchtime, as we know you’ve been anticipating, The Recovering Politician will feature Part 3 of My Home Energy Efficiency Rehab.  With the audit behind us, we move on to see what the rehab entails, and how these changes can dramatically improve the efficiency of your home, saving you bundles.

And of course, so much more.  See you tomorrow!

The Rapture and Next Week at The Recovering Politician

The mainstream press has been obsessed this week with reporting the rantings of evangelical radio broadcaster Harold Camping who is predicting that the Rapture will begin tomorrow at 6 PM.

The good news is that Camping’s views are not widely accepted by the evangelical community.

The better news is, just in case Camping is correct — remembering that the RP and several contributors to The Recovering Politician are Jewish — this Web site will still be fully functional and providing the latest news and Rapture developments in the days ahead for those of you sinners and non-believers in the RP Nation.

So, Rapture or not, we have a busy week ahead.  We’ll start off with a very timely piece from contributing RP Jason Atkinson — an accomplished cylcist — about the fate of his sport considering this upcoming Sunday’s revelations on 60 Minutes about Lance Armstrong’s alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs.

RPTV’s My Home Energy Efficiency Rehab will also be back. You’ve caught the energy audit in Parts 1 and 2; now the rehab itself will be featured in Parts 3 and 4. If you care about the environment – or more importantly, you like money – you really should check out these videos and the accompanying links. They really can save you bundles.

Please join us.

If you’re still around, that is…

The RP: Two New Polls Hint We’re Close to Tipping Point on Marriage Equality

I began this week by stirring up a bit of controversy when I came out of the political closet to endorse marriage equality. In that same essay, I opined that we are close to a tipping point when it comes to the acceptance of gay marriage by a significant majority of Americans.

We’ll end the week by highlighting two brand new polls which seem to support my theory.

First, check out the survey released by the Public Religion Research Institute (h/t The Dish):

A recent Religion and Politics Tracking Survey, conducted by Public Religion Research Institute, is the third national poll in as many months to find majority support for same-sex marriage: a slim majority (51%) of Americans now favor allowing gay and lesbian couples to legally marry, compared to 43% percent who are opposed.

The results of the three polls are remarkably consistent even though the other two surveys were conducted by different organizations (ABC News/Washington Post; CNN/Opinion Research Corp.) using different question wordings.
And apparently it’s not just my kids’ generation (the “Millennials”) in support of marriage equality, but mine (“Generation X”) as well:
Sixty-one percent of 18-34 year olds support allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry, but so do nearly 6-in-10 (57%) Americans between the ages of 35 and 49.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey similarly found support extending into older age groups, with 59% of Americans ages 35 to 49 agreeing that marriages between gay and lesbian couples should be recognized by the law as valid.

Second, today Gallup — which just last year found only 44 percent of Americans supporting gay marriage — released a poll demonstrating another dramatic shift in public opinion (h/t Atlantic Wire):

Tomorrow at The Recovering Politician

We have another busy Friday in store for you at The Recovering Politician.

If you’ve become a fan of contributing RP Artur Davis — or were already one to begin with — he will be the star of this week’s RPTV Friday Video Flashback.  Tune in around lunchtime for his moving views on faith, humility and compassion.

We lead off with the debut of a new Friend of RP.  Tired of life as just another lawyer, he jumped ship and began his second act in a new profession.  Any of our readers looking for inspiration to make a career change should check in tomorrow at 8:30 AM.

See you bright and early on Friday!

Tomorrow at The Recovering Politician

Thursday is a big day at The Recovering Politician.

Contributing RP and former U.S. Congressman Artur Davis leads off with an expert’s view of the machinations within the GOP presidential primary field.  Davis makes some incisive observations from the perspective of someone who has run — and won — elections at the federal level.

At lunchtime, tune in to part two of the RP’s Home Energy Efficiency Rehab: The Electric Efficiency Boogaloo.  After this series, and its helpful links to loan and rebate programs available in your area, you will be primed to save your family a whole heap of money.

We also will feature more musings from contributing RP Jeff Smith, who will share his thoughts on the ongoing budget debates in Washington, and specifically, the impact of the departure of Oklahoma’s junior U.S. Senator, Tom Coburn, from the “Gang of Six.”

And of course, much, much more.  All for the low price of…nothing.

See you tomorrow!

Tomorrow at The Recovering Politician

A few weeks ago, we debuted as a Friend of RP, Mark Nickolas, a recovering blogger/politico who has begun his second act as a documentary fillmmaker.  Tomorrow, we lead off with a new Friend of RP who went the other direction — from an award-winning filmmaker to a political activist and public servant.  I think you will find his story fascinating, and his writing unique and enjoyable.

And of course as always, a lot more is in store for you.

See you on Wednesday.

The RP: I Haven’t Changed My Mind About Ah-nuld’s Privacy

Last week, I opined that the mainstream media should leave Arnold Schwartzenegger and Maria Shriver alone as they went through the very painful personal process of a separation and potential divorce.

By now, you’ve probably heard the latest news: Ah-nuld apparently had an affair with, and impregnated, a member of their family’s household staff ten years ago. The Internet tubes are inflamed with opinion and analysis.

I am sticking to my guns (semi-automatic weapons, in tribute to the Governator.). Whatever you think of the morality of Arnold’s behavior, unless you are a family member or close friend of any of the parties involved, it is None of Your Freaking Business. (NYFB)
